COOKIE’S “Wind Down Friday” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

January 30, 2009

Hi Everybody,

I thought I would share a thought from my Friend and Mastermind Buddy, Coach Rachelle Disbennet Lee, “Coach Lee”, of www.365daysofcoaching.com. Rachelle is the Queen when it comes to using small daily actions to achieve your goals.  Her Daily Success Action for the Day is published everyday.  Now that’s commitment.  In this article, Rachelle shares about the importance of trying something new even if you don’t like it to grow yourself and your business.  I thought it would be a nice compliment to my Blog Thought on Wednesday.  Check it out Rachelle’s Daily Action Comment below.  And if you would like to subscribe to her Daily Action Coaching Newsletter go to www.365daysofcoaching.com

Try It You Might Not Like It

Cookie,  part of the fun in life, at least in my humble opinion, is trying new things.  Every time I try something new it feels like a mini adventure. It doesn’t matter if it is a literature genre or a new coffee.  Trying something new gives me confidence to stretch a little.  I do have a word of caution.  New doesn’t mean you will love it or even like it.  Be prepared in many cases not to like what you try. That is part of the adventure. It is like a big experiment.  Some of the new tries will become your favorites and some won’t.

image004The reason I belong to a book club isn’t because I love the books the club picks to read.  In fact, more often than not the selections of the club are books I would have never read on my own, and I often don’t like them.  So, why stay in a book club and read books I don’t like?  That isn’t the point.  The point is I am reading books I normally wouldn’t try.  By stretching out of my comfort zone, I have discovered amazing authors, stories, and places.  Every time I read a new book, regardless if I like it or not, I learn something. Every book is a mini adventure. It is worth trying something new to see exactly what it is all about.

I love going to Starbucks for a tall soy latte.  I very rarely stray from the usual, unless I get really wild and get a venti size.  The other day, when I was at Starbucks, I heard someone ordering something that sounded very yummy.  I decided to try something new and ordered it. I got my new coffee drink and I took a big sip, and I thought I was going to gag.  It was awful.  I had the bistro add additional milk and that helped, but I would never order it again, but I am glad I tried it.  Trying new things isn’t about loving every new thing you try; it really is just about trying it.

Coaching

Don’t stay with the tried and true.  Be an adventurer and try new things.  You don’t have to love or even like every new thing you try. The point is to just try the new thing and get out of your rut of the usual.  Who knows?  By trying new things, you just might find your new favorite.

Coaching Question

Tried anything new lately?

Daily Action

Today, try something new.

TODAY, give yourself permission to be the student? Let go of one old habit that is holding you back, take a risk, start a something new that will help you grow yourself and your business.

Are You Judging Yourself By Other’s Yardstick?

January 26, 2009

We women tend to judge our worth by other’s measuring sticks, and most of the time that stick is so high up in the stratosphere, a Boeing 747 couldn’t even attain that height!

Here are just a few of the ways we sabotage ourselves in our personal and professional lives:

  • We are afraid to ask for what we really want.
  • We often use excuses, usually involving money and time, for not taking advantage of opportunities that are right in front of us.
  • We allow fear of rejection and failure to get in the way of taking action.
  • We don’t always have enough confidence in ourselves so we  hold back.
  • We allow others expectations of us to determine our own actions.
  • We are afraid to raise our fees because some of our clients might leave.
  • We settle for less than what we really want because we feel like we don’t have any other choices … about much of anything!

The good news is that there is a solution!

Defining and living your life on your terms, in your integrity, and YOUR Core Values.  It is using your Core Values to make all your decisions.  Core values are your own personal standards of excellence – your own personal set of  ‘rules’ if you will.  Core values are who you are, not who you want to be or should be.

I’d like to ask you to do the following exercise.  This week, take some quiet time by yourself and with paper and pen, ask yourself some soul searching questions.  For example:

  • What is important to you?
  • When are you at your happiest?
  • How does that happiness feel like to you
  • How is it showing up – or not showing up in your life?
  • What do you need to change to be in alignment with your Core Values?
  • Who do you need to BE to have the life you want and deserve?

It all boils down to one thing.  Do you want to live your life in mediocrity or live a life filled with peace, love, joy, passion, abundance and prosperity?

The choice is yours.  Choose wisely.

I’m just in my office putting the finishing touches on our Midlife Telesummit Preview Call scheduled for tonight. If you’re approaching Midlife and asking yourself which way to go, then this call will give you some insight into how to take the stress out of the transition.

My Dad had a saying about life that I always remember: “This ain’t practice run. You don’t get to do this over. You better enjoy it and get the most out it while you’re here.”

Go here to check out the details and sign up for tonight’s call.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Tell someone you care about how important to you they are

January 19, 2009

Hi Everyone,

I know I have been MIA for awhile, however, I’m back this week.

Last week was a sad one with the passing of my children’s grandmother and still was like a Mom to me all these years. I will miss her deeply. I can say that I was able to see her before she passed away and tell her how much she meant to me in my life. This quote below reminded me how important it is to let our family and friends know how important they are to us in our lives.

“Every day brings a chance to live free of regret and with as much joy, fun, and laughter as you can stand.”

                                                       — Oprah Winfrey

This week, tell someone you care about how important to you they are.

Have a great day.

Love ya,
